I like Camp Buckskin because it’s a chance to meet new people. A chance to try new things. A chance to improve. I like camp because it’s beautiful and open. It offers new opportunities. It’s the only place I feel like I can truly be myself.
I wanted for a long time to give some thanks to Camp Buckskin as one of those important side roads that gave me a path to success in the future, that future which has become today. I have no doubt that this is owed in part to my experience at your camp. Back in the late 1980′s I was one of those ‘out of control’ kids that felt really lost. I came to Camp Buckskin for several session between 1985 and 1992 and also participated in the senior camper program.
The beautiful natural environment surrounded by nature, the genuine compassion of the counselors and the structure of the program opened my eyes just how wonderful life really can be. It has changed my life forever. As for me now, I’ve graduated from Minnesota State University twice, studied abroad and have been teaching at my current school for 4 years. I live with my beautiful fiancée and have a joyful and calm life.
Camp Buckskin played no small part in helping me make the changes that let me have this life today, Thank you.
I was a Camper in 1988. It was the time of my life. I am currently stationed in Washington D.C., and been in the Marine Corps for 17 1/2 years.
I still have the paddle we made, with the date of 1988 on it. When I retire in 2012, I plan on moving back to Minnesota and have my son attend Camp Buckskin.

I was a camper for two years in the 80′s, and I never got to thank everyone that helped me and touched my life. I don’t think I would have become the man I am if it had not been for the time I spend with you at camp, so thank you! To all of you and what you do to help us all out. I still to this day think of the time I spent at camp and the friends that I had made. I wish I could find them now and see how they are doing. I look back at some of the pictures that I still have and remember all of the fun. I still remember some of the counselors which I will never forget. I still have my paddles that I made, they hang on my wall to always remind me to do my best in everything I do in life. I wish I could give back to camp as much as it gave me. And once again THANK YOU Camp Buckskin for everything you do, and for all the camper’s lives that you have touched in the last 50 years.
I liked the activities at Camp Buckskin. My favorites were Swimming, Canoeing, Archery and Riflery. I made a lot of new friends, and I really liked the counselors, who were from many different countries. They were really cool!
However, one of the set of skills that Camp Buckskin has taught me are things I will need to keep with me the rest of my life. These attributes, such as responsibility, accountability, perseverance, and respect, which I consider the core of my camp learning, will help me for the rest of my life, and camp has helped to teach and reinforce these goals.
My favorite part about learning these was that they were taught by example. The counselors would help when they saw it was needed, showing responsibility, and if they made a mistake, they owned up to it. The best skill by far, however, was respect. At many places I have been, I will feel that the adults do not respect me. They may speak condescendingly, or simply treat me as though I cannot handle anything. At camp, I never felt downplayed. Moving up in levels in any activity was earned through skill, and you knew that if you got it, you earned it.
Thank you for the opportunity to go through your senior camper program. I learned many skills that are helping me in every day life since I returned home. Some these are patience, perseverance, and a willingness to try my best in everything I do.
I would recommend this camp to other kids. I had lots of fun there!
I just wanted to write to say that I had a great time at Camp Buckskin. At first I was feeling nervous because I would be gone for a month from my family but I felt like I was right at home very fast. I also liked my cabin B7. I met a lot of new friends there and my counselors were nice too. It was also very neat to meet different people from different countries and learning about there cultures. Next year I cant wait to see some old & new friends, have fun in all of the activities, win more awards, and also achieve new heights.
